   Applying Eye
Shadow
Applying eye
shadow may seem to be simple. When done properly, the
outcome defines your eyes with more intensity while still
looking natural on you. Most of the common mistakes when
applying eye shadow are that it tends to look crooked,
producing mismatched eyes. Sometimes, blending the eye
shadow in your lids is also a challenge as you can wind up
making your shadow look too dark or too blotchy. Application
errors can also make your eye shadow make up extend to the
wrong upper reaches of your eyelids.
To prevent
eye shadow application mistakes and make you look like
you’re wearing makeup done by a pro, here are some helpful
tips that are very useful for makeup amateurs and
professionals alike:
1. Blend your
colors.
We all know
that blending colors is essential in getting the right
effect when applying eye shadow, but most people do not
really know how to blend their makeup. You will need
three different eye shadow colors. The base color is usually
very light taupe, and then you will need highlighter to
apply for the crease and finally the main color for the
eyelid. In order to get these three colors to merge
beautifully into each other like the colors of a rainbow,
start with the lighter shade then go darker. Apply the base
color first, followed by the lid color and then you can
apply the highlighter. Try to be light-handed in your
application and practice applying eye shadow first days
before the main event.
2. Choose eye-popping colors
for your makeup.
Matching the
color of your eye shadow to your eye color can actually make
your eyes pop out. If you have blue eyes, different shades
of blue eye shadow can do wonders in making your natural eye
color look brighter. However, do not limit yourself to
same shade makeup. Contrasting colors can just as easily
make your eyes pop out beautifully as well, so try deep
jeweled blue shadow on deep brown eyes and see the
difference.
3. Be careful with
highlighter application.
Applying eye
shadow highlighter can make or break the effect of eye
shadow application. Be careful to blend only on the
outside edge when you put dark eye shadow to the creases of
your eyes. Getting the highlighter too close to your eyes
can give a beady look.
4. Go for safe colors if
unsure of what to choose.
Taupe and
lavender colored eye shadows always look great on all eye
colors. You can also experiment mixing shades if you think
the colors your bought look too bold on your
eyes.
